Lurella Cosmetics - A Rant

Writer's picture: OSOS

Hey Everyone! Hope your laptops are treating you better than mine is at the moment.

This is the second time I am writing this post. The first time, I wasl full on ire and snark....after my laptop's treatment, it has snatched all my irritation away.

Literally forced me to refresh my page and I lost a completed blog post. Literally lost it as I was about to post. Assumed it was on automatic save. Alas it was not.

Back to the topic at hand....

Lurella cosmetics! Heard about this brand a while ago and I have been mildly interested/curious as they are affordable and can offer good products for great prices. I was more interested in their brushes given I am something of a brush collector.

My interest/collection ranges from the natural hair brushes/Fude (Rephr, Sonia G, Beautylish Yano to Koyudo) to the synthetic (Mac, Units, Beautylish 420 series, Morphe, Sigma, Bodyshop, NYX, Luxie, Juvia's place, Crown etc).

Prior to doing anything about my brand interest, AIA Beauty box announced they were going to feature Lurella cosmetics for their June 2022 brand offering 5 to 6 of their items at a discounted price including a brush set.

All good! Where do I sign up? Took the opportunity to satisfy my curiosity about the brand. As part of the box set, I received the Neon brush set Checked their site and this goes for USD30. Sufficient price to get a good synthetic brush set.

Tested this out over the course of a week. Could create a full face of makeup using these brushes. They are very soft, the handles are smooth and sturdy to hold but the brushes lack density especially the foundation and cheek brushes. They soak up unnecessary products which is just wasteful. Made too much compromises using these brushes.

Would serve more as a back brush set.

As part of cleaning (must maintain hygiene) followed my usual process :

Use brushes, spray a daily refresh spray onto a microfibre towel and clean the brushes after use daily. Takes about 1 and a half minutes to wipe them down.

Lay them flat for next day's use.

I deep clean/wash every 1 month to 6 week use for Fude brushes using beauty blender solid soap and 3 weeks for synthetics using the detox deep cleaning shampoo.

Performed the same action on the lurella brushes and was surprised by the outcome.

You will note the lines on the brush handles! They are literally breaking down. The handles and breaking down.

Never experienced this before. After 1st wash, the handles are breaking down. The brush heads are stained. Washed the heads several times but the pigment is not budging.

I have had bad experiences with brushes but these take the cake!

I spoke to a friend about these and her response was, what did I expect from a USD30 brush set and that upset me as the comment came off as annoying.

Not everyone has the budget to buy expensive brushes besides if you put out a product, it should be of good quality or you get called out.

Because it has a low/reasonable price is not a reason to put out crap products.

Juvia's place has a 13 piece brush set currently out of USD25 and its killing it! Its stunning and never had any bad experience with it. Granted the original price was USD50 but been on sale for over 2 months. Either way, its USD25, you can get an additional 15% off using code Juvia15 and its perfect.

So why should Lurella cosmetics be excused for putting out this sorry excuse of a brush set for USD30?

Unacceptable! However, best to give the brand a way to redeem themselves and use it as a way to test out their customer service. Will be writing to them and sharing pictures of what happened to my brushes.

Will come back with an update of their response afterwards.

Should take the advice of cleaning brushes regularly - seems like a chore but with your timed perspective and cleverly laid out routine I should have a go …. and I should not even start on laptop crashes …
