A few months back, I was challenged to use other skincare products other than what I consider to be my holy grails.
Hence the skincare challenge was born.
Finally completed my review of Glow recipe which lasted over 8 weeks to really appreciate it and put the products through its paces and I have to say, my reactions and opinions are mixed.
I have combination skin. Oily around my nose. Watermelon glow toner, Watermelon glow pink juice moisturizer, blueberry bounce gentle cleanser, watermelon glow ultra-fine mist, Pineapple C bright serum and avocado melt retinol sleeping mask.
Avocado melt retinol sleeping mask - This is a gentle form of retinol and supposed to smoothen and hydrate skin. Can use as a wash off quick facial or overnight mask.
This sleeping mask is so gentle that it basically does nothing for you. Absolutely nothing! I used it both as a wash off facial which required to pile it on, wait for 15 mins then wash off. Also used as sleeping overnight mask. Nothing! It was gentle to the point of too gentle.
I have used almost the whole thing and nothing.
For retinol users, try other brands. Sorely disappointed with this product. Given the price, I had moderate expectations which it utterly failed.
Pineapple C Bright serum - Supposed to brighten, smoothen and improve complexion. Skin should appear like glass. The serum should also fight dark spots, hyperpigmentation amongst other. Seeing that, my thoughts were - Sign me up!
Results was a total mixed bag. I like this serum and totally works for me. Does exactly what it says on the tin. The last 8 weeks, my face has glowed. Worn minimal cover makeup if at all. Been going with sheer coverage because my skin has been awesome! Even during those pesky period breakouts, nothing! Literally nothing. Had a fantastic time using this product.
The downside is the scent. Just terrible. Cross between soy sauce and rotten pineapple. NO! Then when I was 3/4 way down the bottle, noticed the rest had congealed into a gel like form. Not sure why this occurred. Its just odd.
I cannot get over the smell even though it does not last long on the skin, I could not get over it.
Watermelon glow ultra-fine mist - Supposed to soften, smoothen and hydrate. Can be used to refresh skin or set makeup.
Can you say pointless? Yes I can! Does not work as a setting spray. Just wets your face which is annoying. As a refreshing spray - what is the point? I diligently used it during the trial period. Morning and evening as a refreshing spray but no point. Did nothing for me. If you are into refreshing sprays - this will be your product. The scent is very mild and quite pleasant.
Blueberry bounce gentle cleanser - Serves as a makeup eraser, deep clarifying cleanser. Should also clean your skin without stripping the moisture out . This is supposed to help combat blemishes and prevent breakout.
I am in love with this product! Holy grail product raise your hand! Hand raised!!!!!
I love it that much. The scent is very mild and pleasant. Used this minimum of twice a day. You don't need much. It actually cleans makeup off your face! Not completely. Would still have traces of makeup on when I wipes my face off after just a wash. Not an issue for me as I double cleanse anyways.
My usual is to go in with a cleansing balm then this cleanser at the end of day and my face is completely clean.
What I love most about this, it actually cleans your skin without stripping the moisture out (until you find a product that can achieve this, can you fully understand, this does that beautifully) plus you feel really clean afterwards and it does prevent breakouts.
This is one I will be re-purchasing despite the price. Worth it.
Watermelon glow pink juice moisturizer - This is oil free and has a cooling gel look. It is fast absorbing and supposed to keep skin hydrated without the oil feel.
True to its word. Performs as claimed. This is one of those products that is just meh....just ok. Does exactly what it say but for the price, you can certainly get a good dupe while paying less.
I am not mad at it, works well with makeup. Settles on your face, sort of control/minimizes your oil production which in turn makes your makeup better?
This is just one of those products that the greatest compliment is, its an ok product. Not a must have.
Watermelon glow PHA + BHA pore tight toner - This is supposed to hydrate, tighten and minimize pores for "supple smooth skin". Sigh....Did nothing for me! Then again, I have never had a big pores problem. Never the less this was recommended for me. I do not run away from a challenge so I diligently utilized twice a day.
When it comes to toners, I apply with a pad. The direction for use is to pat onto skin. So different for me, I used as directed and still did nothing for me.
After 8 weeks of use, I declare it pointless and still have a half bottle left on my shelf.
That has been my experience with Glow recipe. Found a holy grail product, 2 ok products, 3 not for me products.
I did have a wonderful time testing this out.
