The Mai Sakura Series

Writer's picture: OSOS

Hello everyone! How are the holidays going? Gotten your new year resolutions sorted? Started? Plans for the new year?

I am one of those who has great plans, start them and quit a month into the year....Guess for which activity? Exercise of course!

2023 is going to be different! Takes 21 days to form a habit. Keep telling myself that...going to make a habit of it 1st thing in the mornings. Will try to catch up monthly and share my progress.... Agree?

Anyways! Back tot he topic at hand....

Previously shared I collect Fude....Will be sharing bits of my collection in different posts...if you have any questions, let me know and will answer as best as I can.

This is the Mai Sakura Series by Muragishi Sangyo. This series consists of five brushes. I have 4 of the 5. If I am not going to use a brush from a series, I avoid that if possible and if not, can buy the set and sell those I will not use on.

This series is described as "The Mai Sakura Series is reminiscent of Kyoto's beautiful scenery, as weeping cherry blossoms dance in the wind across the black handle. The quality of the carefully-chosen bristles is clear from the brush's pleasant texture"

The powder and blush brush are made from Gray Squirrel & Goat Sokoho while the eye shadow brush is made form Gray Squirrel. The foundation brush is made from Goat Sokoho hair.

I really like these brushes. They are very soft and do not prickle the skin at all. These are one of my most used sets during the summer. Maybe because of the handle design but I gravitate towards them during the summer months.

To provide more description, the powder brush has a pinched ferrule and is more oval than round so best used with sweeping motions rather than buffing. This in no way lessens its performance.

It also picks up both loose and packed powders well and gives you a diffused effect.

As well as setting powders, used this for bronzing but not a fav when it comes to bronzing.

The blush brush works with powder blushes. Also used this for targeted bronzing and it works great. No issues. For a diffused and soft look, this will work great.

Because of the Squirrel hair, do not advise using the powder, blush or eye brushes with creams or liquids.

Quick comparison to the Kyureido K series blush blush made from Sokoho goat hair. The Mai Sakura brush is so much softer and easier to use and also better bundled. Has more bristles/hair.

During use, you also have more control. The length hair is shorter so you can pick up more pigment at a time.

I love using this brush.

The foundation brush is quite small. At first, I thought it would be impossible to use this for foundation but it does work for foundation and cream contour.

When not in a hurry, it does work because you will need about an additional minute to use this as a foundation brush. It will take a while to buff your foundation into your face using this brush.

When used, it does work well. Buffs without leaving streaks, smooth even coverage.

When used, best way is to dot the foundation over your face and blend.

I declined getting the eyebrow brush because I would not get any use out of it.

That is my Mai Sakura set. Let me know if you have any questions. See you on the next post.
